Oprah Winfrey’s podcast, book club, and back catalogue is coming to Amazon under a multiyear exclusive deal. Starting in July, The Oprah Podcast will expand from one to two episodes per week, distributed across Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Music, Audible, and Fire TV channels. The show will continue to be available on YouTube and other major podcast platforms.
The agreement, struck with Winfrey's Harpo Entertainment, gives Amazon's Wondery podcast network video and audio distribution rights, as well as ad-sales rights across all channels. It also covers Oprah's Book Club and Oprah's Favourite Things franchises, along with all 25 seasons of The Oprah Winfrey Show. How Amazon intends to present the archive of old episodes has not yet been confirmed, though options reportedly include thematic clip compilations and rereleases of interviews with culturally relevant figures.
The Oprah Podcast, which launched in 2024, draws roughly one million views per episode. The hour-long show features interviews with celebrities, authors, and public figures, and is expected to retain its existing format under the new arrangement. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
For Wondery, the partnership is consistent with its strategy of building a slate around celebrity-driven shows. The network already distributes New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, and Mind the Game with LeBron James and JJ Redick.
Amazon is not alone in pursuing this space. Netflix has recently announced video podcast deals with Spotify and iHeartMedia, alongside original shows, signalling that the competition for podcast audiences is intensifying well beyond traditional audio platforms.
