The Chinese consulate general organised a three-day film festival recently at Nandan, bolstering a calendar of world film screenings in the city, to which the Japan and France consulates-general contribute as well.
“Cinema transcends borders. We have continued to support Kolkata International Film Festival and Kolkata International Children’s Film Festival. Ever since I came here, many friends have expressed a wish for a dedicated China film festival. Tonight, as the screen lights up, we celebrate not only films but also a heartfelt exchange of culture and emotion between our two peoples,” said consul general Xu Wei, while inaugurating the festival.

The festival saw the screening of seven films of diverse themes and styles, opening with an Indo-Chinese co-production, titled Xuan Zang, on a monk who travelled to Nalanda over 1,300 years ago. The consul general hoped for more such co-productions, dialogue and festivals.
The opening ceremony was attended by eminent guests like Goutam Ghose, Alokananda Roy, Tota Roy Choudhury, Chandan Sen and Kamaleshwar Mukherjee, as well as the deputy consul general of Thailand, Benjapa Tubthong.
