The 29-year-old woman whose body was found on the ground behind the wall of an apartment building in Jadavpur on Wednesday had an accidental fall while she was drunk, police said on Thursday.

Sweety Sutradhar had injuries all over her left side, suggesting she fell sideways from the parapet of the three-storey building, according to the preliminary post-mortem report.

She was last seen on the rooftop of the building in Poddar Nagar on New Year’s Eve, an officer said.

Sweety, who worked at a call centre, had been declared dead at MR Bangur Hospital on Wednesday morning.

“Alcohol was detected in her stomach. In all possibility, it appears to have been an accidental fall. We have not found anything to suggest any foul play till now,” Murlidhar Sharma, joint commissioner (crime), said on Thursday.

Her husband Kuntal Acharjee, who runs a business of booking hotels online, was at home when the accident occurred, the police said.

In his statement to the police, Acharjee has said they had a few drinks at a bar in the Gariahat area before returning home for dinner.

The police have said that Sweety had more drinks on the rooftop.

Some officers of Jadavpur police station said she could have been taken to hospital sooner after the fall. “Neighbours had heard a noise but they thought it was a jackal. It was Sweety’s call for help. This means she was alive for sometime after falling to the ground,” an officer said.
