Raiganj, March 30: The Congress has filed a police complaint after a fake Facebook account was opened in the name of Raiganj party MLA Mohit Sengupta who suspects that the profile was created by Trinamul workers.

"I keep close contact with people and don't need the help of social media. People are well aware of it. I don't have a Facebook account. A fake account has been opened in my name with wrong political intentions. I suspect some leaders of the ruling party of the state are behind it," the MLA said here today.

Sources said for the past one month, some youths of Raiganj town had been receiving friend requests from a Facebook account created in Sengupta's name with his picture.

A youth who accepted a friend request from "Sengupta" said: "I felt odd when the MLA started chatting with me through Facebook. The postings made in the chat box were irrelevant, cheap and to some extent, indecent. I spoke to some others who are known to me and are friends with the MLA on Facebook. They had also similar experiences. We made inquiries and learnt that the account was fake."

The media cell of the North Dinajpur district Congress filed the complaint with Raiganj police.

The police said a probe was on.

A Trinamul leader said the ruling party didn't indulge in cheap acts as suspected by Sengupta.
