A woman travelling in an app cab allegedly bit her own tongue and licked the uniform of a policeman when she was stopped at a checkpoint in Salt Lake during the lockdown on Wednesday.
The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon in an area that falls under Bidhannagar North police station.
The woman was arrested.
The car was stopped for routine check and the occupants were asked to explain why they had stepped out despite the lockdown.
“As I was explaining to the policemen that there were medicines and other essential commodities in the car, the woman on the rear seat stepped out and started shouting at the cops,” the driver of the app cab said.
The woman allegedly bit her tongue and licked the cop’s white uniform near his stomach, leaving a bloodstain.
Videos clicked on mobile phones by the police and onlookers captured the entire incident.
The woman was seen shouting at the cops using objectionable language till she was drawn away by a friend she was travelling with.
Both were taken to the police station.
The man travelling with the woman said they were neighbours at Picnic Garden and were going to buy medicines and pet food from a market in Salt Lake.
“I do not know why she reacted like this. I apologise. But I have not done anything,” the man said.
An officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate said the incident had left cops “shocked”.
“It is a disturbing incident. There could be disagreement, but no one has the right to do this to those who are risking their lives to keep others safe,” said the officer.
