Morigaon march into final

Guwahati, March 2: Morigaon stormed into the plate group final of the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy Senior Inter-District Cricket Tournament, defeating Karimganj by five wickets at Barsapara Cricket Stadium here today.

Karimganj went down to a spirited Morigaon on the last day of the three-day match.

Earlier, Karimganj ensured a first-innings lead of 34 runs while they went on to make 214 runs in their second innings to set a target of 249 runs. Morigaon were bundled out for 140 runs in their first innings.

Morigaon, resuming their innings at an overnight score of 14 for no loss, eased past the target losing five wickets in 61.3 overs. Overnight batsman Jeevan Barman scored 55 runs off 94 balls with nine hits to the fence while Nabajyoti Nath was the first wicket to fall for 18 runs off 30 deliveries.

Pabitra Patar led the chase with a gutsy knock of 77 runs off 70 balls and Saddiqur Rahman chipped in with an unbeaten 63 runs off 102 deliveries. Abdus Salam picked up two wickets going for 68 runs in 17 overs while Vikrant Sehwag and Omkar Dutta Choudhary scalped a wicket each.

Morigaon will take on Bongaigaon in the final from March 4 to 7.
