Actor and National School of Drama alumnus Abhijit Lahiri on Saturday provided insights into his acting experience and showcased the nuances of method acting at a workshop here.

It was a great learning experience for over 30 students at the workshop, who were impressed by Lahiri’s techniques for dialogue delivery, eye movements and the nitty-gritty of method acting.

Lahiri asked the students to act out imaginary sequences like following a butterfly with the eyes and appropriate body movements, pointing out the differences in expression and movement required for a butterfly and a housefly. “Without imagination, it is difficult to define an acting sequence,” Lahiri said on the sidelines of the workshop, sharing his experience from his first television serial Sahashraphan and films like Dahek, Chamku and Payback.

Lahiri’s acting class followed workshops by singing guru Sanjay Vidyarthi and Usha Uthup at T-Series Stageworks Academy.

The academy has been set up by the T-Series group in association with Dream House Productions at Guwahati Central Mall.

About his teaching commitment at the academy, Lahiri said, “This is the beginning. I have come to inspire the students. My experience and thought process will help them. I love teaching and developing their skills. I will keep on coming here as and when required.”

He also underlined the importance of learning

different languages, which he said is a must for aspiring students. He recollected how he had stayed with Assamese actor and compatriot Pranjal Saikia for three years,

during which he picked up speaking in Assamese.
