Manipur government orders to shut of all schools till March 31 due to the spread of coronavirus

The Manipur government has ordered closure of all schools till March 31, stepping up its measures to prevent transmission of coronavirus. There has been no confirmed case of the disease in the state as yet. “All schools in the state shall remain closed with immediate effect till March 31 in public interest to ensure reduction of mass gathering and avoidance of transmission of Covid-19,” said an order issued by Manipur schools education commissioner T. Ranjit Singh.

Death for Majuli lynching

Jorhat additional district and sessions judge Poly Kataky on Friday ordered capital punishment to one Rajen Doley of Barduwa gaon, Majuli, and awarded life sentences to 11 of his accomplices for lynching Raj Kumar Doley, his wife Bornali and their son Jitu in the island district in 2012 on the suspicion of the family’s involvement in witchcraft. Raj Kumar Doley’s eldest son Santanu had lodged a written complaint against the accused at Garmur police station. A case under Sections 143, 364, 302 and 201 of the IPC was registered against the accused.

One hurt in Tinsukia shop fire

One person was injured and property worth thousands of rupees was destroyed in a fire that gutted a shop near the bus stand at Powai National Highway under Margherita subdivision in Tinsukia district of Assam on Thursday night. Fire fighters managed to douse the fire.

Request for bridge

The residents of Kumsai Gaon under Margherita subdivision in Tinsukia district of Assam on Friday appealed to the state government to construct a bridge in place of one that has been damaged since 73 years.

Kalyan, an NGO, held a Bihu workshop at Mahalakshmi auditorium in Tinsukia district of Assam on Friday.

Water supply

The main water supply pipeline that caters to district headquarters Aalo has been cut off and the main source of water from the Ene river (in picture by Vinod Kumar Singh) likely to go dry. Restoration is being carried out under the supervision of PWD Aalo division.

Man hit by train

Himangshu Goswami was hit by a train and died in Nagaon’s Demow early on Friday morning. He was allegedly trying to cross the track.
