Who’s our man with the magic feet? Jamshedpur FC supporters across India voted star midfielder Michael Soosairaj, 24, as the fans’ player of the month, thanks to his two vital goals against FC Goa.

Voting was conducted by Red Miners, fans of JFC which debuted in Indian Super League last year as a professional football club. The in-form Soosairaj, a key weapon in JFC’s armoury who has become toast of fans, edged out team mates Sergio Cidoncha and Mario Aques to bag the honour.

Utsab Ghosh, one of the founders of Red Miners, said they conducted online voting of JFC fans across the country in November first week. “The voting for the October player of the month lasted five days in which 1,180 fans cast their votes. We declared results late on Wednesday. Soosairaj topped the charts with a whopping 1,121 votes. It seems his two goals against FC Goa in the November 1 match, which helped JFC post an emphatic 4-1 win, was fresh on everyone’s minds,” he said.

The Tamil Nadu-born midfielder’s dribbling and scoring acumen impressed fans, Ghosh said. Soosairaj has so far scored three goals in six matches for his team. “He moves fast but strategically, which fans love,” Ghosh said. “When he moves, it’s Soosairaj, Soosairaj all the way.”

Soosairaj, who hails from Tamil Nadu’s Eraviputhenthurai, had played the I League for Chennai City FC last season before the Tata Steel-franchise picked him for the ISL in JFC.

Asked how it felt to be the player of the month for JFC, Soosairaj sounded elated. “It’s a recognition from fans, which makes me very happy. Looking forward to giving them a lot of joy in upcoming ties. Thank you Red Miners,” he said.

For many Jamshedpur football buffs, Soosairaj beats even local lad Gourav Mukhi. “He (Soosairaj) is a brilliant mover who anticipates his opponents very well. He positions himself well and shoots with near accuracy. He is an asset to JFC,” said Prabhakar Mishra, a JFC diehard.

Jamshedpur, who are yet to lose a match this ISL 2018-19 season, are placed fourth on the table with 11 points. They won two matches against Mumbai FC and FC Goa and drawn five others. With JFC to play five more matches in the coming days before the ISL takes a temporary break due to India’s participation in AFC Asian Cup in January, fans can rely on Soosairaj to deliver more classy performances and help his side win.
