A speed-breaker made by residents caused the death of a 24-year-old biker in Mango on Saturday night.
Sushil Kumar, a computer operator at a private firm, was returning home on his bike around 10pm. The mishap took place on Road No 5 in Sankosai linking Dimna Road in Ulidih, Mango, around 10pm.
As he entered Road 5 in Sankosai to reach his home on Road 4, the bike hit the newly built speed-breaker and skidded off. Sushil, who was not wearing a helmet, fell with a crash, his head hitting the road. A bystander informed Ulidih police, leading a patrol party to reach the spot and rush the injured to Tata Main Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
In a written statement to the police, the victim’s uncle Chandradev Prasad blamed a section of local residents for setting up a faulty speed-breaker on Saturday. Later, talking to newspersons, Prasad said: “The speed-breaker was unusually high and had no coat of white paint. As a result, my nephew may have missed it and hit it without slowing down, which caused his bike to skid.”
Ulidih OC C.S. Kumar said if the mishap had been caused due to the speed-breaker, they would break it and take action against those involved in its construction.
