Bikers rob trader

Bettiah: Shafi Akhtar, a bidi merchant of Chanpatia in West Champaran, was robbed of Rs 5 lakh at gunpoint on Wednesday afternoon near the Kumarbagh power sub-station. khtar had withdrawn Rs 3 lakh from the Bettiah branch of Union Bank of India and got the remaining amount from his pump set shop in Bettiah town. He was on his way home when some motorcycle-borne criminals robbed him at gunpoint.

Three dead

Nawada (PTI): Three labourers — Pintu Kumar (35), Sukhdev Pandit (37) and Mitto Kumar (34) — were killed when boulders fell on them while they were working in a quarry at Dibaura village on Wednesday.

Murder

Munger (PTI): A Jamalpur coach factory employee, Ram Prasad Tanti (48), was on Wednesday shot dead by assailants near the Central Institute under the jurisdiction of East Colony police station in Munger. Police said they were looking for the assailants.

Ammo haul

Gaya (PTI): Police on Wednesday recovered a 15kg can bomb from a Maoist-hit area under the jurisdiction of Chhatarbandha additional police station. Acting on a tip-off, the police dug out the explosive from the forest area, said senior superintendent of police Ganesh Kumar. The bomb disposal squad was called to defuse the explosive.

Freak death

Gaya: Four youths — Pintu Kumar, Ranjan Kumar, Jitendra Paswan and Mukesh Kumar — were killed on Wednesday when lightning struck them at Mangarahiya village under the jurisdiction of Barun police station in Aurangabad district. Bunti Kumar and Amresh Kumar, who were injured, have been admitted to Aurangabad sadar hospital.

Sentence

Siwan: Additional district and sessions judge Ram Daras on Wednesday awarded eight years’ imprisonment to Baletha resident Abdul Rashid and his second wife, Guddi Khatoon, on the charge of murdering Nasra Khatoon, Rashid’s first wife, in 2009. A fine of Rs 5,000 was slapped on each, failing to pay which they would have to serve three years’ imprisonment.

Patil delays hearing

Patna: Chancellor-cum-Governor of Bihar D.Y. Patil has postponed the hearing of former pro-vice-chancellor of Patna University J.P. Singh. ingh has approached the Raj Bhavan seeking voluntary retirement scheme. Patil postponed the hearing after Patna University urged the Raj Bhavan for the same. In another case, Patil directed the selection committee of different universities to make appointment of Ramendra Kumar Singh, Sanjay Kumar Singh and Nagendra Narayan Mishra as assistant professors.

CM mourns

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday mourned the death of Congress leader and former deputy chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Subhash Yadav.

Patna: The State Bank of India, Patna, local head office distributed fruits among patients of Bharat Vikas Viklang Punarvas Kendra and Sanjay Anand Viklang Hospital and Research Centre as part of its community services banking.

Patna: Ajeenkay D.Y. Patil, son of Bihar governor D.Y. Patil, has been appointed the honorary consul of the Republic of Guyana in Mumbai.

Patna: Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Ltd deputy general manager (PR) H.R. Pandey on Wednesday said a junior engineer, Abhinita, posted at Mahnar supply sub-division in Vaishali district was dismissed from her job for dereliction of duty and disobedience of her superiors’ orders.

Gang in net

Patna: Five members of an inter-state gang involved in hijacking trucks and killing the drivers and cleaners on the national highways were arrested from Khagaul-Bihta road in Patna on Wednesday.

BJP law & order barb

Patna: BJP state spokesperson Suresh Rungata on Wednesday alleged that the law and order in the state had collapsed and cases of theft and extortion has increased in the past few days. he present government has reminded people of the erstwhile RJD rule and murder were occurring openly. “If appropriate steps are not taken, that day is not far when the RJD regime will be in power once again,” he said.

Patna, June 26: The district administration has set up a control room for information regarding pilgrims trapped in Uttarakhand. he control room can be contacted on 0612-2219810 and 0612-2219234. The state government on Wednesday drafted two additional collectors and eight officials of under-secretary rank for relief camps set up in Uttarakhand. The officials would remain stationed in Uttarakhand till further orders.

Patna: A high court bench of Justice Gopal Prasad on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to former LJP MP Surajbhan Singh in connection with additional public prosecutor Ram Naresh Singh’s murder case.

Patna: Power distribution companies — North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd on Wednesday launched a “voluntary disclosure of load scheme” for low-tension consumers. The plan would be in operation from July 1 to November 30.
