Pregnant woman, child run over

Katihar: A pregnant woman and a child were crushed to death on Wednesday morning when a truck ran into their hut at Pokadia village under the jurisdiction of Phalka police station of the district. he victims were sleeping when the accident took place. The local residents blocked the National Highway 77 for about five hours between 8am and 1pm at Pokadia village to protest the death. They also demanded compensation for the family of the deceased persons.

Rajak calls Cong feudal

Patna: Food and consumer protection minister and JD(U) leader Shyam Rajak on Wednesday accused Congress of having a feudal mindset. He was reacting to the reported statement of Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi in which he had said caste-based reservation system should be abolished and should be given on the basis of economic condition.

Protest stage

Patna: Members of Aashray Abhiyaan on Wednesday staged a dharna accusing the state government of not using the funds meant for housing schemes for urban poor.

Health target

Patna: The state government has set the target of having 1.5 lakh beds in government hospitals by the end of 2017. A decision to this effect was taken in the meeting to review the work of human development mission that was chaired by chief minister Nitish Kumar.

Tourism focus

Patna: The department of tourism and Indian Chamber of Commerce have jointly set up a stall at the venue of 57th all India congress of obstetrics and gynaecology to attract tourists to Bihar.

HC summons

Patna: A bench of Patna High Court comprising Justice J. N. Singh on Wednesday directed the social welfare department director to file a reply within two weeks explaining why the instructions of the court were not followed. The court directed while hearing a miscellaneous jurisdiction case filed by former child development project officer of Bihta block in Patna, Rashmi Prasad in connection with alleged sexual harassment. Earlier the court had directed the director of social welfare department to inquire the matter and submit report within three months

Court order

Patna: A high court bench comprising justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi on Wednesday directed the chief secretary of Bihar to direct the officials of all the departments that when any document or petition may be received, official write his full name, designation and office name on the receiving document. The directive came after hearing a writ petition filed by one Krityanand Singh.

Directive

Patna: Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi of the Patna High Court, while hearing a writ petition on Wednesday, directed Gaya district magistrate to remain present in the court on February 10. This direction of the court came after the court was not convinced by the inquiry report of the SP (Vigilance) submitted before the court with regard to alleged irregularities being committed in registration, assigning numbers to the cases filed in the office of the district magistrate.

Power award

Patna: The Nathpa Jhakri hydel power unit of Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited has been awarded the silver medal during 2012-13.
