Arti with Raghuvansh (Kamlesh-up)

Calcutta: The western India jockeys held the centre stage, winning seven of the eight events in Sunday's card. They were in full control, and in the process, exposed the local riding talent in the pressure situation. Jockey P. Kamlesh had the lion's share, winning three races for trainer Arti Doctor. Their tally included the afternoon’s feature event, the 1,400m Hilliard Cup, which was claimed in a close finish by a 6-1 chance Raghuvansh, who beat Darius Byramji-trained Adamaris. In the same race, the public-rage Credit Squeeze cut a sorry figure.

The Arti-Kamlesh day had started with the victory of Special Star, a rank-outsider in the Mr Mauritius Handicap. The combo packed off in style when Pocket Rocket edged out Exclusivity in the concluding event, Fair Haven Handicap. Nirmal Jodha and Dashrath Singh were the other Mumbai riders who scored a double apiece for trainers Javed Khan and Bharath Singh respectively.
