Calcutta: Virat Kohli, on Wednesday, was appointed as the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).

Kohli succeeds former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori, who was at the helm during last season.

“We are delighted to announce Virat as our captain. His hunger to learn, lead, motivate and set an example is unquestionable,” team owner Vijay Mallya was quoted as saying in a press release.

Kohli said he is looking forward to the challenge of leading the side. “I’m glad to be appointed as captain of RCB! It’s a great feeling… Being drafted as an under-19 player in the side in 2008 and now being asked to lead the side is a big honour.

“The side comprises great players and I thank the owners for reposing their faith in me… I am looking forward to the challenge and the responsibility to carry the team to greater heights,” Kohli said.

Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab have signed Rajasthan’s left-arm medium pacer Aniket Choudhary. Aniket, who made his first-class debut in 2011, has played 12 first-class matches and taken 30 wickets. This will be his first IPL season.
