Calcutta: Captain Virat Kohli didn't indicate as to how many changes India would be making for the third Test versus England at Trent Bridge, beginning Saturday.
But he did confirm that Jasprit Bumrah is fit, which means that the pacer is all set to be a part of the bowling attack. As for his back pain that troubled him during the second Test, Kohli said he's "absolutely fine" now.
Speaking on the eve of the third Test, Kohli said: "The ones who have been doing well will play... No other issues...
"We're very excited with Bumrah getting fit again. He is an attacking bowler who bowls good lines and lengths. He is very consistent in hitting the areas required at the Test level. He had shown that in South Africa.
"He is one guy who is very aggressive in his mind. He wants to take the situation head on and make the batsmen feel uncomfortable. That's his strength and he relishes that challenge. He is really a quality bowler...
"As for my back, it's absolutely fine now. I'm feeling fine. It has been an issue that has been coming on and off again. I got it in 2011 the first time. It happens with workload.
"Back is such a thing you don't know when it's going to go off. All you can do is strengthen and work on muscles around it. Ample rest, a bit of strengthening and proper rehab got me back into shape. I've had it a couple of times before. I know how to handle it."
Whether India play an extra batsman or a bowler depends on the pitch, Kohli made it clear. "It depends on how the surface is going to be like.
"If it has got enough assistance for bowlers, then an extra batsman might come into play. But if it's quite even for batting and bowling, then obviously picking up 20 wickets is the priority. Batsmen still have to take responsibility and put runs on the board, though.
"But as I have said in the past, you still have to take 20 wickets to win a Test match. Look, it's not about saving one discipline. It's about every discipline taking responsibility of their respective jobs.
"So, both possibilities are there, depending on how exciting and spicy the pitch is going to be."
Kohli stressed on the need for team effort and a positive mindset in these conditions. "You have to accept that when you play here, you are not set even when you are batting on 100.
"But you can't be fearing that good delivery. It's all about you feeling positive first... Can't just go in and surrender.
"You have to have the confidence regarding how much you can contribute and that of scoring good runs.

"We have to look towards a team total. If 10 people get 30 each, that will also suit us well."
Kohli rubbished thoughts and views regarding some players' careers being on the line. When the focus is on winning matches, thinking about players' careers is "quite bizarre", Kohli retorted.
"These are things created on the outside and people like to make a lot out of nothing, basically.
"For us, priority is to win games of cricket. We are not thinking of whether someone's career is on the line or what's going to happen to their future.
"When it's your time, it's your time. Everyone has had their time in the past. No one can play forever. But that day is not today.
"We need to focus on this Test match and not think about whether someone's career is on the line. It's quite a bizarre thought to have," Kohli remarked.
The only conversation the team has been having post Lord's defeat is about how to win the coming Test. Players haven't been thinking of anything else, Kohli emphasised.
"The only thing that is spoken about is to focus on what the team requires at all times in this Test. You know when your back is against the wall is the time for you not to think of anything else. You just can't afford to think of anything else.
"If you look at it from another point of view, it's actually a good situation to be in because you literally have no room for thinking about anything else except what the team requires at that particular moment from you throughout the course of the Test match.
"The only conversation we've had is that the only option is to win this game and nothing else. You need to show that in your body language, in your intent and the way you prepare for the game, the way you go out and the way you go about things."
