Calcutta: Opener Udiyan Bose smashed a 47-ball 74 and was backed by some tight bowling as Tripura recorded their first victory in the zonal phase of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Twenty20 meet, at the Eden on Wednesday.

In reply to Tripura's imposing 192 after being put in to bat, Jharkhand could manage only 168 for the loss of six wickets on a track that facilitated stroke-play to a fair extent, something Udiyan made good use of.

For their part, Jharkhand did have the firepower in their line-up to chase down the total, but with due respect to them, the urgency didn't quite seem to be there among the players. Barring captain Saurabh Tiwary and Ishank Jaggi, others just weren't able to force the issue.

Opener Shasheem Rathour did hit an unbeaten 53-ball 70, but that never quite threatened to take the game out of Tripura's control. Besides, Jharkhand also conceded as many as 32 extras which included 21 wides, as all of these combined to hand them their third straight defeat in the competition.

The decision to bring in Prakash Seet, giving away in excess of 50 in 2.5 overs, and not giving the ball anymore to leg-spinner Pratyush Singh who struck twice in the only over he bowled (conceding just one run), was pretty baffling as well.

However, to be fair to Jharkhand, missing Ishan Kishan - out with a finger injury - did go on to make their task even more tougher.

Brief scores
Tripura 192 in 19.5 ovs (U. Bose 74). Jharkhand 168/6 in 20 ovs (S. Rathour 70 n. o). Tripura won by 24 runs.
