Sukantanagar Vidyaniketan of Calcutta ousted Army Boys Sports Company, Danapur 2-0 to enter the semi-finals of the Subroto Cup football tournament.
Both goals came minutes before the final whistle. Right back Habibur Rehman Mondal scored from a penalty kick in the 56th minute while nippy striker Nemai Sardar consolidated the lead in the 58th minute.
It will be an all-Bengal clash in the semis where Sukantanagar will take on Rangadih Shree Bhojanashram High School, Purulia. In the other semi-final, Khamson Government High School, Manipur will meet Government Boys High School Meghalaya.
The first half of the match between Sukanatanagar and Army Boys was largely confined to the midfield. Army Boys missed a couple of opportunities to score. First, Suraj Rai?s left-footer struck the post. Then, Bijoy Thapa?s early goal was disallowed for off-side.
In the 56th minute, right back Ram Rai Soren tripped winger Debdas Biswas as the latter dribbled past him A penalty was awarded and Habibur made no mistake.
Minutes later, Tushar Das took a prompt angular shot following a corner kick. Army Boys goalkeeper Robin Mazumdar failed to grasp the ball and an onrushing Nemai tapped it in.
In the sub-junior section, All Nepal Football Association Academy ousted SAIL High School, Bokaro 1-0 to become the first team to enter the semis.
