Subhankar wins gold

Gabala (Azerbaijan): Indian shooters won seven medals, including three gold medals, on the opening day of ISSF Junior World Cup for pistol, rifle and shotgun. Bengal's Subhankar Pramanik gave India its first gold in the 50-metre rifle prone event. Subhankar, along with teammates Fateh Singh Dhillon and Ajaey Nithish, also won a silver in the team event. Sambhaji Patil won the gold in 25-metre standard pistol. Sambhaji, Gurmeet and Rituraj Singh won the gold in the team event.

AFC U-16 meet

Margao: Captain Suresh Singh Wangjam struck in the injury time to help India come from behind and hold Saudi Arabia 3-3 in a Group A match of the AFC under-16 football championships here on Sunday. India enjoyed a 2-1 lead in the first half through strikes from Aniket Anil Jadhav (fifth minute) and Aman Chetri (23rd minute). Saudi Arabia scored through Aldhuwayhi Abdulaziz in the 34th minute before substitute Albrikan Feras Tariq found the net twice in quick succession in the 82nd and 83rd minutes to put his team up.

Sourabh loses

Leuven: Shuttler Sourabh Varma fell at the final hurdle as he lost to Lucas Corvee of France in straight sets in the summit clash of the Belgian International badminton tournament. He lost 19-21, 19-21 in a 43-minute contest against his fifth-seeded rival.

Armaan show

Calcutta: India's Armaan Ebrahim enjoyed a mixed weekend as he, along with Sri Lankan teammate Dilantha Malagamuwa, finished first in his class and second overall on Saturday before scrambling to a hard-fought fourth in the next outing on Sunday in the fifth round of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia series in Fuji.
