India’s domestic cricket schedule has been revised with the season set to get underway with both the men’s and women’s U-19 national one-day tournaments beginning from September 20.

The schedule announced earlier on July 3 by the BCCI had stated that the season would begin on September 21 with the senior women’s national one-day league, which will now start from October 20.

Under the new schedule, the U-19 women and men will play in another one-day meet — the Challenger Trophy — that now starts from October 25 and 26, respectively. “Obviously, with the (men’s) U-19 World Cup slated to be held early next year (in the Caribbean), the matches assume importance. We need to finalise the national squad too,” said a Board source.

For the senior men, the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy would be their season opener, from October 27. The Ranji Trophy, supposed to begin on November 16, will now start from January 5 next year with the Vijay Hazare Trophy slotted ahead of it (December 1).

The Cooch Behar Trophy (men’s U-19 meet) and the Vijay Merchant Trophy (men’s U-16 meet) are the only multi-day tournaments to be held in 2021, in November, as the Board wants to take stock of the Covid-19 situation in the country.
