Calcutta, Dec. 18 :     Top seed Ritwik Bhattacharya beat R. S. Brar to reach the men?s final of the Power East India squash championship at the Calcutta Racket Club today. Bhattacharya won 9-1, 9-3, 9-7 and now meets the winner of the other semi-final ? between Anuj Kalia and N. Narain. In boys? under-19, Rahul Suri beat Gaurav Yadav 9-4, 9-6, 9-4 and meets Varun Kataruka in the final. Kataruka beat Divyakant Begnani 10-8, 9-3, 7-9, 9-3. Ali-Kumar pair wins The top-seeded pair of Akhtar Ali and Dilip Kumar today claimed the all-India veterans? doubles tennis title, beating Ajit Lall and Somnath Bose 6-1, 6-1 at the Indian Tennis Academy (ITA) courts. The winners got Rs 20,000, the runners-up Rs 10,000. The ITA today donated Rs 50,000 for the ailing Davis Cupper Premjit Lall. Top seeds win The boys? under-12 singles top seed, Farid Alam, won the first round of the Runglee Rungliot junior tennis meet on the claycourts of the Ordnance Club today. Farid beat Amartya Das 6-0. The other good winners of the day were Biplab Das, who beat Shivraj Singh 6-0, Archisman Mitra, who beat Anurag Biswas 6-1, B. Deb, who beat Prateek Haralalka 6-1 and Rohan Jaikishen, who beat Vedent Khaitan by the same margin. All those in the boys? under-12 first round. In the under-14 first round, D. Vishwakarma won over Rahul Jaikishen 7-0, as did Viren Pandey over Archit Chamaria. Rohan Jaikishen also had it easy, beating Shivraj Singh 7-1. The toughest match of the day was between Samir Haldar and Soumya Sur. The former finally won through, at 7-6 (7-2). Rating chess The third BCLA international open rating chess meet of the Belur Chess Lovers? Association will be held at the I.P. Memorial School, Liluah, from December 25 to January 1. The meet carries a total prize purse of Rs 36,000. Top players like IM Shanker Roy, Suvrajit Saha, Laltu Chatterjee will take part.
