Calcutta: Antoine Griezmann, who scored the most number of goals in Euro 2016, was adjudged the best player of the meet. But a former France international doesn't think it is the correct decision.
Frank Leboeuf, won the 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Championships with France, insists his fellow countryman was not a deserving recipient of the award. Leboeuf was quoted as saying by espn.in that he thinks that Portugal defender Pepe could have been named best player of Euro 2016 ahead of Griezmann. On Monday, Uefa revealed that Griezmann, 25, was the player of the tournament. Leboeuf, 48, feels that Pepe, who helped his side win 1-0 in Sunday's final, or his Real Madrid club mate Gareth Bale, who was left off the official team of the tournament, could have been better candidates.
"I don't agree with the decision," Leboeuf said. "Uefa has always worked like that. T0he man of the match is always the player who scored the goal. You have Pepe, you have Gareth Bale who carried Wales. There were players who really showed their qualities."
