New Delhi: The National Anti-Doping Agency (Nada) on Saturday raided the hostels of the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala and collected 13 samples of medicines and food supplements from athletes’ rooms.

Led by Nada project officer Ankush Gupta, the raid was conducted in the backdrop of the doping scandal that had eight athletes testing positive in a span of five days.

According to sources, while the rooms of 14 men and six women athletes were searched by the Nada team, which also had Dr. Sangeeta, assistant project officer Jai Singh and Sachin, coaches were also not spared. “The rooms of two foreign coaches and one Indian coach were also searched,” sources said.

All the samples would be brought to the capital for laboratory tests. A total of 27 urine samples have also been collected of which 15 are from weightlifters. Six athletes, four boxers and two women wrestlers were also asked to provide urine samples.

Nada director general Rahul Bhatnagar said that the raid was a part of the routine drive.
