Narine can bowl, but no off-breaks

Sunil Narine has been banned from bowling his off-breaks in any match organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He may, however, continue to bowl his other deliveries - the knuckle ball and the quicker straight ball.

Calcutta: Sunil Narine has been banned from bowling his off-breaks in any match organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He may, however, continue to bowl his other deliveries - the knuckle ball and the quicker straight ball.

According to a BCCI media release, if he uses the off-break again in the ongoing IPL, he will be suspended from bowling in BCCI-organised matches.

Narine, who was in Chennai on Tuesday, hasn't returned to the city with the Kolkata Knight Riders squad.

Venky Mysore, Knight Riders' CEO & MD, tweeted on Thursday that Narine is "available for selection".

Narine had again been reported for a suspect action following Kolkata Knight Riders' game against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Visakhapatnam on April 22.

He was asked to go to the ICC-accredited Sri Ramachandra Arthroscopy and Sports Sciences Centre in Chennai for a biomechanical analysis of his action. Upon review by the BCCI's suspect bowling action committee, it was concluded that Narine's action while bowling his off-break was illegal.

"The BCCI suspect bowling action committee has reviewed the evidence of the match footage and the analysis provided by Sri Ramachandra Arthroscopy and Sports Sciences Centre," said the release.

"Following the provisions of the IPL suspected illegal bowling action policy, the committee has concluded that Mr Narine's bowling action for his off-spinner, contravenes Law 24.2 (as read with Law 24.3) of the Laws of Cricket and, therefore, the player is now banned from bowling the off-spinner in matches organised by the BCCI, including the IPL.

"He may, however, continue to bowl his other deliveries (the knuckle ball and the quicker straight ball).

"If Mr Narine were to again bowl the off-spinner in this season's IPL, the on-field umpires would apply Law 24.2 and call 'no ball' and, at the end of the match, would issue a further report.

Pursuant to clause 3.4 of the IPL suspected illegal bowling action policy, the player would in such circumstances automatically be suspended from bowling in BCCI-organised matches," the release further stated.

Narine may undergo a course of bowling rehabilitation and take corrective measures to ensure that his action does not contravene Law 24 and may then request a further official assessment by the committee.

Since being reported, Narine missed KKR's match against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday as the franchise had decided to not risk him. Narine had been a key factor behind KKR's success in the IPL.

The franchise emerged champions in 2012 and 2014. Narine was the second-highest wicket-taker last season with 21 wickets in 16 matches.

Narine had been reported twice during the Champions League T20 last October and was subsequently banned from bowling in the final of the tournament.
