New Delhi: Syed Rahim Nabi may not be biggest star of Indian football but he is the most versatile footballer. Whether its Bob Houghton or Armando Colaco, Nabi is always in the scheme of things.

Largely used as a wing-back in the Asian Cup by Houghton earlier this year, Nabi now seems to be a serious contender in the midfield under new coach Armando.

On Saturday, when the players at the national camp played a practice match against Western Command at the Ambedkar Stadium, the Calcutta-based footballer was the coach’s first choice as the wideman on the left.

“I feel at home playing at any position,” said Nabi. “I have played in all three positions — in defence, midfield and attack — and never had any problem in adapting myself. It also gives the coach more options,” he said.

“The match against the UAE in the World Cup qualifiers will be tough… But the boys are fit and preparations are on full swing,” said Nabi.

Against Western Command, the national campers won 8-0 with Sunil Chetri alone scoring four goals. While Joaquim Abranches netted a brace, Nabi and Naoba Singh struck a goal each.
