Bangalore: Uttar Pradesh’s Shivam Singh set a new meet record at the fourth junior (under-18) National Athletics Championships when he won the boys’ discus throw, with an effort of 53.29m here on Friday.

Shivam’s attempt at the Kanteerava Stadium eclipsed the previous record of 53.00m set two years ago by Haryana’s Pardeep Kumar. Delhi’s Bhalender Singh (52.52m) and Haryana’s Akash Antil (51.07m) finished second and third, respectively.
