Calcutta: There were goals galore at the Barasat Stadium on Saturday as Mohammedan Sporting routed BNR 7-0 in a CFL Premier Division match. Mohammedan Sporting could have won by a bigger margin had their frontliners been a little more industrious in front of the goal.
But then after a 7-0 victory nobody could be expected to be in a mood to complain. "A good win... That much I can say. Credit goes to the players," said coach Mridul Banerjee after the match.
Mohammedan Sporting were 2-0 up by the sixth minute. Some fans who missed the opening 10 minutes were fearing that Mohammedan Sporting might close shop. But against a side, who had just two points before Saturday's match, one could always be bullish on the chances of a goal-glut.
"I do not know whether we still have a chance to win the title. East Bengal have to lose matches, and we have to continue winning. Let's see what happens," coach Banerjee said.
Well winning the title is something even the optimistic Mohammedan Sporting fan not thinking about. One thing for sure Banerjee has a done creditable with this bunch of inexperienced players.
