Calcutta: Mathys Erhard of France toppled second-seeded Indian Sacchitt Sharma in the first round of the boys singles U-18 event in the ongoing DKS ITF Juniors meet at DKS on Tuesday.

Sharma secured the opening set 6-4 in 45 minutes. In the second, Mathys got a crucial break at 3-1 as he dropped just a point in that fifth game and eventually levelled the match at 1-1.

In the deciding set, Sharma was enjoying an early break in the second game itself and went 2-0 up but made a series of unforced errors and dropped serve in the very next.

In the sixth game Sharma got a lucky break and led 4-2, but faltered yet again.

The set progressed with hold of serves thereafter and entered into a tie-breaker, where Mathys got a little luckier winning 7-5.

Sixth seed Rishabh Sharda also failed to enter the pre-quarter finals as he lost to Soufiane El Mesbahi of Morocco 6-2, 1-6, 1-6.
