Calcutta: Darren Bravo, inarguably the most outstanding West Indies batsman of his generation, is keeping fingers firmly crossed as he's still waiting for his IPL debut.

A first cousin of the one and only Brian Lara and half-brother of Dwayne (they have the same father, Joe), Bravo was in the Deccan Chargers squad in 2012 and is currently with the Kolkata Knight Riders.

However, the 28-year-old Bravo is yet to make the XI.

"Like any other cricketer, I'd certainly like to play and I know my chance will come. When it does, I would grab it with both hands," Bravo told The Telegraph on Thursday, ahead of the Knights' match against the Gujarat Lions.

Praising the environment in and around the Knights, Bravo said: "To be honest, this is like home away from home. I've blended nicely with the boys and it has helped that I play for the Trinbago Knight Riders (also co-owned by Shah Rukh Khan) in the CPL...

"The IPL attracts almost all the top players of the world, which is why it's a great tournament...

"That the fans support the IPL by turning out in such huge numbers in every match only adds to the IPL's flavour...

"Some proclaim team X will win or team Y won't, but it's very competitive cricket and it's not over till the fat lady sings...

"The Knights have begun IPL X splendidly and, hopefully, another win is just hours away."

Appreciative of the role being played by the Knights' coach, legendary Jacques Kallis, Bravo added: "I grew up watching Kallis on the TV and let me tell you that working with him is an experience...

"In fact, Kallis and I were teammates in the Trinidad & Togabo Red Steel (previous avatar of the Trinbago Knight Riders) when the franchise won the CPL in 2015...

"So, I have shared the dressing room with both Kallis the batsman and Kallis the coach."

While the Bravos turn out for different franchises in the IPL, with the older Dwayne wearing the Gujarat Lions colours, both are very much an integral part of the Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL.
