Joshana enters semi-finals

New York: Joshana Chinappa pulled off a sensational win against Egyptian Salma Hany to sneak into the semi-finals of the Carol Weymuller Open squash tournament. Joshana, who had to qualify to enter the main draw, won the fierce battle 11-9, 8-11, 5-11, 11-8, 11-9 in the quarter final.

Golf meet

Hong Kong: Indian golfers Samarth Dwivedi and Aman Raj finished tied 42nd and tied 47th, respectively, after high winds and heavy rainfall from the nearby typhoon Mujigae forced cancellation of the final day's play of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championships.

Olesen triumphs

London: Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen kept his nerve to win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship by two strokes at St Andrews on Sunday and ease the pain of narrowly missing out in 2012. This was Olesen's third European Tour victory.

Bilbao win

Barcelona: Aritz Aduriz scored one goal and set up another for Athletic Bilbao in a 3-1 win over misfiring Valencia in La Liga on Sunday.

Advocaat quits

London: Dick Advocaat has stepped down as manager of Sunderland after less than seven months in the job. The 68-year-old Dutchman took over from Uruguayan Gus Poyet in March. They have failed to win in eight games this season.

Postiga injury

Calcutta: The injury of Helder Postiga, who pulled up a hamstring during the ISL II opening match against Chennaiyin FC, will be reassessed by the medical team of Atletico de Kolkata. Although the marquee player has travelled to Goa with the team, it is least likely that he will be playing the match. after both men won their rain-delayed semi-finals. Berdych defeated Spain's Tommy Robredo 6-1, 6-4, while Garcia-Lopez fought back to beat Croatia's Marin Cilic 1-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Ferrer's title

Kuala Lumpur: David Ferrer beat his fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 7-5, 7-5 in the final of the Malaysian Open on Sunday to capture the 25th title of his career and his fourth this year. Staff reporter & Agencies
