Mohun Bagan began the centenary celebrations of their famous 1911 IFA Shield final win over British Army’s East Yorkshire Regiment at the club ground, on Thursday.
At a glittering function on the Mohun Bagan Day, the club released a stamp of that 1911 team. Bagan also awarded the ‘Ratna’ to the family members of the 10 triumphant footballers.
The highlight of the programme was the release of a special cover by governor M.K. Narayanan with P.K. Banerjee, Chuni Goswami and Sailen Manna in attendance.
Unseeded Shruti Gupta of Bengal reached the girls’ under-14 semi-finals of the Dalhousie Institute Vision Search AITA Talent Series defeating Maitry Phukan 4-1, 4-1, on Thursday. She outclasses her opponent with strong ground strokes.
In the boys’ under-18 category, Rakshi Rishi of Delhi entered the semi-finals, defeating Bengal’s Shukrit Guha 6-4, 6-4. In another semi-final clash, Richie Agarwal of Bengal thrashed statemate Nikunj Poddar 4-0, 4-1.
