Orissa, Jharkhand qualify Aziz to lead Table tennis Three-way lead TODAY IN SPORT

Orissa, Jharkhand qualify

Orissa and Jharkhand qualified for the knockout stage of the under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy after Bengal were beaten by Assam by two wickets at the JU Campus in Salt Lake on Saturday. Orissa made it to the next stage by beating Tripura by 105 runs. Batting first, Bengal scored 200 for nine in the allotted 50 overs. In reply, Assam achieved the target losing eight wickets in 45 overs.

n Orissa 237/9 in 50 ovs (A. Sami 59; Abhijit Dey 3/51). Tripura 132/9 in 50 ovs (S. Roy 51). Orissa won by 105 runs.

Aziz to lead

Parvez Aziz was chosen the captain of the 15-member East Zone squad to play in the under-19 Vijay Hazare Trophy meet commencing on Sunday. East will play their first match against Central Zone on Monday.

Table tennis

Central Calcutta and Hooghly qualified for the semi-finals of the team of 71st State & Inter District Table Tennis Championships at the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra on Saturday. Central Calcutta became the group champion defeating Hooghly 3-0. Hooghly finished runners-up.

Three-way lead

Debaditya Sinha Biswas, Soumya Thakurta and Suman Basu with five points apiece were in the lead after the fifth round of the second All-Bengal Schools? Chess Championship at the Park Institution on Saturday. Debaditya beat Sandipan Chatterjee, Soumya defeated Antarip Roy and Suman got the better of Sukanya Dutta on this day.
