Calcutta: Dipsan Tirkey is not taking anything for granted.

The 18-year-old defender, who was a part of the junior hockey World Cup-winning squad, said on Monday that his target is to do well in the Hockey India League (HIL).

"I am not thinking about the Indian senior team at this point in time. My target is to do well for Kalinga Lancers in HIL," Dipsan said after Bharat Petroluem's 5-2 win over last year's champions Punjab National Bank in the Beighton Cup semi-final.

Dipsan hails from Saunamara village in Sundargarh district of Odisha. It's the same village from where former India captain Dilip Tirkey comes from. "He is my idol... I grew up watching him."

Dipsan said he spoke to Dilip after the Lucknow triumph. "He told me not to get carried away. 'A junior World Cup triumph is nothing if you do not do well at the senior level,' was his advice," Dipsan revealed.

Former India player Deepak Thakur also feels these players should not be thinking too much about the Junior World Cup success.

"It's a good thing. We have won the title after 2001. But what's the point if they do not make it count at the senior level," he said.

Deepak was the top scorer when India won the 2001 junior World Cup Down Under. "People are saying by 2018, this bunch will be rocking at the senior level. If you ask me, I would give them time till 2020.

"They will need another four years to make a mark as a team at the senior level," Deepak said.
