Calcutta: Hyderabad won a thriller against Chhattisgarh in a Group D match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, at the JU Salt Lake campus ground, on Wednesday.

Having restricted Hyderabad to 197, Chhatisgarh almost completed the chase, falling short by just four runs. Chasing 198 for victory, Chhattisgarh stopped at 193 for 9 in 50 overs.

Chhattisgarh's top scorer Ashutosh Singh was out off the first ball on the final over and that cost the team dear. Tailenders Pankaj Roy and Shubham Thakur, who remained not out, failed to do the needful.

Ashutosh's patient knock of 65 off 98 balls had only two boundaries. He put up a valiant fight as none of the other batsmen could even cross the 30-run mark.

For Hyderabad, Bavanaka Sandeep was the top scorer with 70 not out. Chhattisgarh's Shubham Thakur grabbed four for 36. In another Group D match of the day, Services beat Jammu and Kashmir by 24 runs.

In the match played at the Bengal Cricket Academy ground in Kalyani, Services batted first and made 214 in 48.4 overs. In reply, Jammu and Kashmir were all out for 190 in 45.1 overs.

Nakul Verma and Samsher Yadav got fifties for Services. In the bowling department, Vipin Singh was the most successful bowler for the winning team, taking three wickets.
