New Delhi: A Delhi court, on Friday, granted permission to Suresh Kalmadi, the main accused in the Commonwealth Games graft case, to attend the 2012 London Olympics.

Special CBI judge Talwant Singh allowed Kalmadi’s plea to visit London from July 26 to August 13, and ordered him to furnish a bond of Rs 10 lakh and a surety of the same amount. The judge also asked his counsel to remain present in the court proceedings during his absence.

The court made it clear that Kalmadi, who is facing trial in the case, will be allowed to visit London for the purpose of the Olympics only.

“I don’t think he (Kalmadi) should go unless he is cleared of all charges. He himself should volunteer and not attend the London Olympics,” sports minister Ajay Maken said.
