Erik ten Hag is pressing Manchester United to increase their offers for two players at his former club Ajax, Lisandro Martinez and Antony.

United have already offered 50 million euros for Martinez, the Argentina centre back, who is also being pursued by Arsenal, while their offer for Antony, a 22-year-old Brazil winger, is 60 million euros, 20 million short of what Ajax are looking for.

Though both players are pushing for their moves to go through and to rejoin Ten Hag, neither offer has been accepted. Ajax would prefer to secure replacements for them before agreeing to either deal and want to bring in 125 million euros across the two transactions.

Ten Hag has responded by contacting Brian Brobbey, a Holland under-21 forward, who scored 10 goals in the Eredivisie for him last season while on loan from RB Leipzig.

Ajax are attempting to sign him on a permanent deal, but Ten Hag’s intervention had complicated the negotiations.

United are also struggling to convince Frenkie de Jong join them from Barcelona.

The 25-year-old Holland midfielder established himself as one of Europe’s most sought-after creative players while working with Ten Hag at Ajax before moving to Catalonia in the summer of 2019 for £63 million.

New signings

Nottingham Forest strengthened their squad with the signing of left back Omar Richards from Bayern Munich. Southampton have signed Nigeria midfielder Joe Aribo from Rangers.
