Calcutta: With the T20I series lost, India should now focus on the upcoming ODIs and Tests, and try and have South Africa under the pump in those encounters, emphasised Harbhajan Singh.
Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of his academy — Harbhajan Singh Institute of Cricket (HSIC) — at a city-based school on Friday, the off-spinner said that Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his men should concentrate on the assignments ahead instead of pondering over the T20I disappointment.
“Why should you cry over spilt milk? It’s time the T20I losses are done away with. We must focus on beating South Africa in the ODIs and Test matches.
“I’m sure the players are looking forward to these contests and making a statement there,” he said.
South Africa, on their part, seem very particular about their priorities as they started their preparations for the ODI series, which begins in Kanpur on Sunday, on Friday itself.
Pacers Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel, along with left-arm spinner Aaron Phangiso, underwent an hour’s training at Eden Gardens. It was a session where the trio did a bit of bowling and fielding practice.
According to a source in the South African camp, a couple of players cancelled their personal programmes in order to attend an afternoon team meeting that featured audio-visual analysis of the team’s strengths and weaknesses ahead of the one-day matches.
Coming back to Harbhajan, he hoped he would return to the iconic venue again for a Test or a one-dayer.
“I have some wonderful memories of the ground, so it was disappointing that the match (third and final T20I) could not be held yesterday. But I would definitely like to come back here again for a Test or an ODI,” Harbhajan said.
Meanwhile, former Bengal top-order batsman Subhamoy Das will be one of the head coaches of Harbhajan’s academy.
