Overview: What a story the Danes have scripted! Lost key player Christian Eriksen to a life-threatening medical condition in the first match, lost the first two games and now they are in the semis. Kasper Hjulmand’s men are living a dream that may well continue for some more time.

X-factor: Mikkel Damsgaard, the youngest member of the Denmark squad, has been spectacular in Eriksen’s absence. The 21-year-old Sampdoria midfielder’s vision, game reading and finishing are top notch

Top scorer: Kasper Dolberg (3 goals)

Overview: Two more steps to find out if ‘it’s coming home’ for Gareth Southgate’s England. The powerful team seems to be gathering momentum at the right time. They have been solid defensively and are yet to concede a goal in this Euro.

X-factor: Harry Kane needs no introduction. The England captain has been among goals and also plays a key role in providing superb assists.

Top scorers: Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling (3 goals)

Overview: Italy, unbeaten in their last 32 games (also on a 13-match winning streak), have been playing scintillating football at breathtaking speed with killer finishing. No hurdle seems tall enough for Roberto Mancini’s team at the moment.

X-factor: Jorginho is not always pleasing on the eye, but the chirpy workhorse conducts the Azzurri’s game with unmatched efficiency.

Top scorers: Ciro Immobile, Lorenzo Insigne, Manuel Locatelli, Matteo Pessina (2 goals)

Overview: Talented but inconsistent, that has been Spain’s story so far. Luis Enrique’s team has fluffed chances galore on way to the semis. Their passing is still the best in the tournament, but without proper finishing that might go to waste against stronger sides.

X-factor: Pedri, young and talented, is growing in confidence with each match. The 18-year-old Barcelona midfielder has a big presence despite his slender and short physique and can play a decisive role.

Top scorers: Álvaro Morata, Pablo Sarabia, Ferran Torres (2 goals)
