Calcutta: East Bengal unveiled their two new foreign recruits, Jan Berger of Czech Republic and Sebastian Omar Monesterolo of Argentina, on Tuesday at the club tent.
Berger arrived in the city early on Tuesday, while Monesterolo had reached Monday evening.
“I’m very happy to have come to this city. I will be playing in India for the first time. I think this will be a new experience,” said Berger, who comes from a family with strong sporting links.
A cousin of former Liverpool player Patrick Berger, this 33-year-old medio played for Czech League 1 team FC Slovacko. He has also played for Swedish teams like FC Basel and FC Grasshoppers.
About his famous cousin, Jan said that Patrick was a couple of years elder to him. “During our formative years, we played together in the Professional Soccer School,” he said.
The Argentine striker also sounded upbeat. “I think this will be a good experience,” said Sebastian who had, before coming to India, played for two years in the Maltese League.
Both the new recruits will have their medical tests on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the club’s Lebanese recruit Ramez Dayoub will reach the city on Thursday. The squad will leave on Friday for Puri to have a two-week pre-season camp.
