Rahul Dravid didn’t provide any fodder to the controversy between Virat Kohli and the BCCI over the limited-overs captaincy.
The Team India head coach, on the eve of the first Test versus South Africa in Centurion, was asked about his inputs into the practice of having separate captains for red-ball and white-ball cricket.
Being sensible enough, Dravid replied: “It’s the role of the selectors and I’m not going to get into individual conversations that I might have had.
“It’s not the place and the time to be doing so and discussing that and what internal conversations I’ve had with people... Certainly not going to publicly start telling people what conversations I’ve had.”
Dravid preferred to lay emphasis on Kohli’s role in helping the team to keep getting better as a group. “He has been one of those players who really loves Test cricket, looks forward to Test cricket and really wants to compete and play. And hopefully, he has a great series as that’ll really benefit the team as well,” he stated.
Earlier, in a video posted on bcci.tv, Dravid said it was “phenomenal” to see how Kohli has grown as a cricketer and person. “I was there when Virat played his first Test match (in June 2011 versus West Indies in Kingston) and I had batted with him in that particular game. It’s phenomenal to see 10 years later how he has grown as a cricketer and also as a person.”
