Put into bat, England rode captain Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 94 and Harry Brook’s 80 to post a formidable 342/7. Moeen Ali also chipped in with 51 while Sam Curran (28) too got some meaty blows in the slog overs.

But South Africa, in reply, had the required run rate in control, thanks to skipper Bavuma (109 off 102 balls), who played a superb knock comprising 14 fours and a six. Miller, showing good composure right through, ensured Bavuma’s effort didn’t go in vain.

Brief scores: England 342/7 in 50 ovs (J. Buttler 94 n.o. H. Brook 80). South Africa 347/5 in 49.1 ovs (T. Bavuma 109, D. Miller 58 n.o.; O. Stone 2/48). South Africa won by 5 wickets.
