A win may not guarantee them a place in the semi-finals, but a loss would certainly knock them out of the race for a last-four berth. That’s how things stand ahead of the Sri Lanka-AfghanistanT20 World Cup match in Brisbane on Tuesday.

Having said that, all such equations might go for a toss if, as the forecast says, there is rain in Brisbane on Tuesday.

Sri Lanka are on the same number of points — 2 — as the Afghans (who have faced two washouts) after suffering two losses in three games.

But who would have the edge if the rain stays away? In the Asia Cup, the Afghansblew away Sri Lanka in the group stage, but the islanders got their revenge in the SuperFour stage. It looks like it will be a contest between Afghanistan’s strong bowling line-up and Lanka’s brittle batting.

Afghanistan will be without opener Hazratullah Zazai, who has been ruled out of the Cup with an abdominal muscle strain.
