Mitchell Marsh’s form in T20Is last year, which culminated in a successful T20 World Cup campaign for champions Australia, justified Delhi Capitals’ decision to rope him in during the auction this February.

But there’s no clarity over when the Capitals can avail of the Australia all-rounder’s services in this IPL. Marsh, who had sustained a hip-flexor injury late in March, has been undergoing his rehabilitation with the Capitals under their head physio Patrick Farhart.

Last week, assistant coach Shane Watson had said that Marsh was “progressing well” and would “soon be available”. But at present, the 30-year-old’s condition is still being assessed.

“Mitch is still being assessed. There’s some time before our next game, so we may get a clearer idea closer to that,” a Capitals team source said.

Rishabh Pant and Co. next play on Saturday, versus Royal Challengers Bangalore, at the Wankhede. It’s extremely unlikely that Marsh could be available for selection against the Faf du Plessis-led side.

On April 20 and 22, the Capitals face Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals, respectively, in Pune. It remains to be seen if Marsh is able to regain full fitness before any of these matches, or if Delhi have to wait even longer.
