The last date for filing nominations for the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) office-bearers’ posts for the 2022-23 term has been extended by a day, till October 23.

Sourav Ganguly, though, will most likely file his nomination for the CAB president’s post on Saturday itself, sources said. The deadline has been extended because quite a few association members come from distant places, especially those from the districts.

When it comes to finalising the panel, Sourav, according to sources, will be taking into account who all are “qualified” along with other technicalities. Also, there’s speculation as to whether requests from the state government need to be considered while forming the panel.

As things stand, Sourav looks all set for his second stint as the CAB president. “Chances of something else occurring are slim,” said an insider of the state association.

Former India opener and Bengal coach Arun Lal is likely to be given a “significant” post for the next term. In themeeting Lal had with Souravon Thursday at the Eden, heis learnt to have expressed his desire to work for the betterment of Bengal cricket. He will either be given the vice-president’s role or made in-charge of the state’s cricket operations.

Awards

Former India cricketer Rumeli Dhar is set to be named Bengal’s best senior woman cricketer for the seasons 2019-20 and2021-22. For the 2020-21 season, Parna Paul has been adjudged the best.
