PCB to sign truce with the ICC

Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to accept the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s decision to move the matches out of the trouble-torn country.

“A formal truce between the PCB and the ICC is expected to be announced on the World Cup issue after a meeting between the heads of the two bodies in Dubai on July 28 or 29,” a well informed source in the board said on Tuesday.

Sohail case

Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is trying to convince Aamer Sohail to reconsider his decision after the former skipper recently resigned from the twin post of the PCB director of game development and as the head of the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. Sohail said he had decided to quit from the posts as he was not getting job satisfaction.

Akhtar row

Karachi: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of controversial pacer Shoaib Akhtar’s 18-month ban and fine case till on Wednesday after listening to arguments of legal counsels of both the parties.

BCCI tourney

Mumbai: The country’s top players, including India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, are expected to take part in the inaugural BCCI Corporate Trophy limited overs tournament to be held from September 1 to 8. Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan are the other players expected to participate in the tournament.

ECB query

Calcutta: The England and Wales Cricket Board has on Tuesday asked for clarification from Cricket South Africa following reports that all matches on the forthcoming tour scheduled for the Wanderers in Johannesburg may be reallocated. England had been scheduled to play a Pro 20 International, an ODI and the fourth Test match at the Wanderers.

Dilshan injury

Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Tillekaratne Dilshan is a doubtful starter for the five-match one-day International series against Pakistan starting on July 30, team manager Brendon Kuruppu said on Tuesday. Dilshan fractured his right index finger while keeping wicket during the ongoing third Test against Pakistan.

Vermeulen in

Harare: Batsman Mark Vermeulen made a comeback to the Zimbabwe side as he was included in the team to face Bangladesh in the five match ODI series in August. The 30-year-old Vermeulen was set free by a Harare court on medical grounds in January 2008 after confessing to setting fire to the Zimbabwe Cricket Academy pavilion and boardroom in 2006.

WI squad

St George’s: The West Indies have added a couple of new faces and recalled a few others in a 14-member squad for the first two ODIs against Bangladesh on Sunday and next Tuesday in Dominica. Left-handed opening batsman Kieran Powell and fast-medium bowler Gavin Tonge are the rookies in the squad.
