Calcutta/ Bangalore: Do Dong Hyun struck twice to take East Bengal to a 2-1 win against arch-rivals Mohun Bagan in the I-League match at Siliguri on Saturday. Dong scored in the 40th and the 75th minute to take his team ahead, before Yusa Katsumi (83rd) pulled one back.
But Mohun Bagan squandered a great chance to equalise in the injury time, but Jeje Lalpekhlua failed to convert a penalty. Bagan could have taken the lead in the seventh minute, but Katsumi's free-kick was saved by Luis Barreto.
Cornell Glen and Jeje then combined in an excellent move for the defending champions. The striker tried to put the ball on a silver platter for the India international, but Arnab Mondal lunged in to clear the danger with a rather clumsy but effective challenge.
East Bengal were awarded a penalty in the 38th minute, with Luciano Sabrosa booked for tugging at Ranty Martins' shirt inside the box. Do Dong-Hyun, who had come in for Abhinash Ruidas moments earlier, stepped up and buried the spot kick to give his side the lead.

Meanwhile, there was drama on the touchline a couple of minutes later, as referee sent Bagan assistant coach Shankarlal Chakrabarti to the stands.
Just before the break, Katsumi floated in a free-kick which found its way to Dhanachandra Singh at the far post.
The left-back managed to keep the ball in play, before Luciano's weak jab went over the bar as East Bengal went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Bagan found the back of the net 11 minutes into the second period, as Glen beat Baretto but the Trinidanian was flagged offside.
On the hour mark, Lobo sent the ball in from the right and Ranty got the better of Luciano, and tried to head it in. Debjit did well to keep it out. Dong latched onto the rebound inside the six yard box, but he failed to slot the ball home, managing only to hit the side-netting.
Bello Rasaq came to Bagan's rescue two minutes later. Dhanachandra advanced into the opposition's final third with the ball but Debjit came off his line to sweep away the danger. However, his clearance only went as far as Glen whose attempt at the empty net was thwarted by a brilliant block on the line by Rasaq.
Jeje whipped in a delicious cross from the right flank in the 65th minute, but an uneven bounce saw Glen get caught in two minds as he eventually decided to control it, but his hesitation enabled Barreto to grab onto the ball safely.
East Bengal then doubled their advantage in the 75th minute. Dong completed his brace, as he got the better of the Bagan midfield before going past Kinshuk Debnath. He then calmly slotting past Debjit to make it 2-0.
Bagan tried to put up a fight and pulled one through Katsumi in the 83rd minute. Pritam Kotal curled in a cross from the right and the skipper got ahead of Rahul Bheke, before heading the ball in to halve the deficit.
In the fourth minute of injury time, Sehnaj Singh hacked down Jeje inside the box to concede a penalty. However, the Bagan forward's effort from the spot was a weak one and Barreto was able to make the save.
That was virtually the last kick of the game, as East Bengal secured a 2-1 win in the Derby. The victory saw them move within two points of League leaders Mohun Bagan, with a game in hand.
In Bangalore, Daniel Lalhlimpuia found the net late in the second half to lead Bengaluru FC to a 1-0 win over Mumbai FC.
