Calcutta: Medium-pacer Taskin Ahmed comes in for the injured Mashrafe Mortaza as Bangladesh face Australia in an inconsequential Group II game of the World T20, in Dhaka, on Tuesday.
The event technical committee of World T20, on Monday, approved Taskin as replacement for Mashrafe, who has been ruled out of the competition after sustaining a knee injury during the match against India last Friday.
Both Australia and Bangladesh have had a torrid time so far in their respective World T20 campaigns. However, when the two sides square off in their final appearance in this edition of the tournament, a victory in this dead rubber will mean more for the hosts than for Australia.
For Bangladesh, it just won’t be about a victory over heavyweights Australia and ending the competition on a high. But it’s also their best chance to break a depressing sequence of losses and prove their capability to the cricketing world.
As far as Australia are concerned, they have certainly surprised one and all to perform below par and be on the receiving end in all their three matches as of now, especially after a series of impressive shows.
Precisely, this is Australia’s best chance to avoid the wooden spoon.
