Calcutta: The conditions weren't at all ideal for a game of football, but that didn't stop La Martiniere from registering a comfortable 3-1 victory over The Heritage School, in the Keventer Cup inter-school football tournament, organised by the Debanjan Sen Foundation, on Sunday.
Duane Andrews, Nathan Simone and Yashkar Lama were on target for La Martiniere, while Rahul Badoni pulled one back for The Heritage. It was sheer quality that helped La Martiniere prevail in soggy conditions of their school ground.
Duane was adjudged Man of the Match.
La Martiniere play their next game, on Tuesday, versus Frank Anthony Public School.
In the other game at the La Martiniere ground, Future Hope were held to a 1-1 draw by Julien Day, Kalyani.
Future Hope were all over their opponents in the first half and expectedly, were on the ascendancy when Sunny Kewat took advantage of a shaky Julien Day defence to score.
But much against the run of play, Julien Day found the equaliser through Sayan Ghosh minutes before the final whistle. Sayan was also named Man of the Match.
At the Gitanjali Stadium, DPS New Town rode Surya Bhattacharya's strike to beat DPS Megacity. Anarghya Das of DPS New Town was adjudged Man of the Match.
