Calcutta: After two pretty decent seasons in Goa, it's time for Darryl Duffy to get a feel of things at the Calcutta maidan.
The Scottish striker, representing Mohun Bagan in the coming season, started practising on Tuesday. Watching the proceedings of Bagan's practice match versus Peerless SC (which Bagan lost) from the sidelines, Duffy understood that he has a tough job in hand. "It's not going to be easy here. I have been playing for Salgaocar for the last two years, so I have gathered some experience about Indian football. I am aware of my job." Duffy said.
Duffy will have to encounter his "good friend" Calum Angus when Bagan meet arch-rivals East Bengal when action begins in the coming season. Duffy is only readying himself to score over his friend.
"Calum is a very good friend of mine. But I need to beat him to score against East Bengal. We will have tough rivalry for the entire 90 minutes... That's for sure," Duffy pointed out.
If the arch-rivals meet in the CFL, Duffy is determined to make sure East Bengal don't win the title for the seventh time on the trot.
Bagan, in all probability, won't be fielding their full-strength team in the CFL. But Duffy is ready to ensure inexperience doesn't turn out to be a major hurdle for his side.
"This squad (for CFL) looks a bit inexperienced, but that will not be a problem. I am prepared to guide these guys," he said.
The Scotsman also shared his view on the impact Brexit could have on English football.
"As far as Brexit is concerned, it could create problems for non-British players because the clubs then might not spend money more than what's usual.
"British players, in that case, will be more affordable for the clubs. All said and done, everything depends on what the clubs want and how they approach the situation," Duffy explained.
