Calcutta: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has banned former Haryana and Rajasthan Royals off-spinner Ajit Chandila for life from all official cricketing activities for his role in the IPL 2013 spot-fixing case.

The decision was made after the disciplinary committee of the BCCI met at Board’s headquarters in Mumbai on Monday. Also, former Mumbai batsman Hiken Shah, who had been suspended by the BCCI in July 2015 for making an “illegal approach” to a player, was handed a five-year ban.

According to a BCCI media release, Chandila “is held guilty of misconduct and corruption within the Articles 2.1.1; Article 2.1.2; Article 2.1.3; Article 2.1.4; Article 2.2.2; Article 2.2.3; Article 2.4.1 of the BCCI Anti Corruption Code.”

However, the committee, headed by BCCI president Shashank Manohar and comprising Jyotiraditya Scindia and Niranjan Shah, deferred a decision on Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf till February 12, giving him a final deadline of February 9 to file his reply.

Chandila had been suspended by the BCCI in May 2013 following his arrest by Delhi Police for his alleged involvement in corruption in the IPL.
