Brisbane: She said 'yes'!

It's not a regular event at the cricket ground, definitely not when an Ashes match is on. But Aussie fan Michael Langridge found the pool deck at the Gabba to be the chosen spot to propose to his girlfriend Tori Roebuck.

Ashes is known to be one of the most high octane Test series in the world and it often sees the best of cricketing action. However, during day 2 of the first Ashes Test, saw some action off the field as well, with the unusual pool event.

Wearing bright yellow-and-green swimwear in support of his country, Michael dropped to one knee and asked the question, much to the delight and cheers of the thousands of cricket fans around them.

Tori, luckily for him, replied with a yes.

The packed house at Gabba was left surprised but cheered on the couple.

Meanwhile, on the field, skipper Steve Smith led a rescue mission to revive Australia's fortunes after a top-order batting collapse in the Ashes Test against England in Brisbane on Friday.

For those who consider the swimming pool at Gabba a strange thing, Friday's 'proposal' will make it even more unique. Not long after lunch on the second day Langridge, literally, took the plunge.

Langridge, 27, and Tori, 24, were both in their swim wear and soaking wet. Tori appeared to have said yes before jumping on her fiancé in celebration.

Moments after the successful proposal, hoards of cricket fans were seen cheering for the couple.

The proposal was not only seen by tens of thousands of people at the packed stadium, it was also streamed to millions watching on television right across the world.

"She's a total catch! I can't believe I get to spend the rest of my life with her," Michael told Daily Mail Australia shortly after he popped the question.

"I bought the tickets three or four months ago. We've both bonded over the cricket and it has helped us through some tough times in our life."

The pair met 12 years ago but didn't start exclusively dating until two years ago - with Michael admitting Tori was "worth the wait."

"I uploaded pictures to Facebook trying to win a spot on the Pool Deck, so when we were picked it made sense for us to head back to the hotel and change," he said of the day.

"While she was changing into swimmers, I slipped the ring - which was in a safe - into a backpack with the towels... she had no idea.

"Once we got to the pool I explained to the Cricket Australia staff around what my plan was and they held my backpack for me." Agencies
